Gutter Mesh – Preventing Damages From Floods And Clogged Gutters
What are Gutter Guards?
Gutter guards can be defined as rolls of special material such as a mesh that are fitted on top of your existing gutters in order to stop leaves and other debris from entering the gutter and potentially blocking the gutter, downpipes, and even the stormwater drain.

Why Gutter Guards are so Beneficial
Gutter guards are of great benefit to your home for a number of reasons.

1. Firstly, they stop leaves and other debris from clogging up your gutters so that you don’t have to spend your precious time cleaning out the blockages or spend money on getting professionals out to do it for you.

2. Secondly, it means that your gutters only have to be cleaned every three to five years, instead of twice a year.

3. Gutter guards stop your gutters from prematurely rusting due to moisture-laden debris just sitting in them. This means that your gutters will last at least twice as long as they otherwise would.

4. Gutter guards also stop the blockages that see your gutters overflowing during times of heavy rain. This overflowing is dangerous as it can cause water to enter your home and cause damage or cause damage to your foundations.  Overflowing gutters can also cause unsightly staining on the outside of your home.

5. Gutter guards can improve the flow of water through the gutters and downpipes as they stop them from blocking up. This is excellent if you have a rainwater tank as it means that your tank will refill more quickly when it rains.  The water will also be cleaner as the gutter guard filters out debris and contaminants.

6. They can also stop insects and vermin such as mosquitoes, mice, cockroaches, and spiders from breeding in the gutters.  Gutter guards greatly reduce the amount of stagnant water that just sits in the gutter and because there is little to no stagnant water, it becomes much more difficult and unattractive for nasties to use the gutters as their breeding ground. Gutter guards are also a physical barrier to rodents, birds, and possums that can otherwise find their way into your roof space.

7. Gutter guards are also excellent protection in bushfire-prone areas, especially if you get metal gutter guards that are specifically rated for fire protection.  Embers can travel a long way during a fire and if they get into dry material in the gutters, the material can ignite and the fire can spread quickly. Installing a gutter guard means that there is no material to potentially catch alight.
